Suction and discharge rubber hoses are mainly used in water conservancy dredging and waterway engineering, municipal and industrial drainage, mining and tunnel engineering, agriculture and infrastructure. These applications require large volume transfer of fluid or semi-fluid materials in very short time, so suction and discharge hoses are generally large diameter, usually ranging from 38mm to 1200mm or even larger, with common specifications are above 102mm (4 inches).

The design of suction and discharge hose needs to withstand both positive and negative pressure, that is, suction and discharge. They need to withstand both the pressure of discharge (positive pressure) and the negative pressure of suction to prevent them from being sucked flat. Depending on different transporting medium, suction and discharge hose can be classified as: mud suction and discharge hose, water suction and discharge hose, oil resistant hose, acid and alkali resistant hose, wear resistant hose, and high temperature resistant hose.
